Roslyn’s LIRR station is getting a major upgrade — finally.
The station house is now closed and 10 parking spots are fenced off through summer 2026 while the MTA tackles a full renovation. We’re talking new roof, windows, gutters, LED lights, updated platform signs, and a spruced-up canopy.
Councilman Ed Scott said it best: “It’s about time.” The 1887-built station last saw big changes in the '80s. Now, it’s set for a modern refresh, with work funded by MTA capital and operating dollars.
Commuters, hang tight — a better, safer, cleaner station is on the way.

🦇 Bats to the Rescue
Source: Newsday
Freeport’s Brookside Preserve just went a little batty — in the best way.
Over the weekend, volunteers from Eco Rotaract of Nassau County (ERNCLI) rolled up their sleeves and got to work, installing 10 bat boxes and planting native trees and shrubs to help cut down on mosquitoes — the buzzy little pests that love standing water.
The plan? Let bats do the work. Each box can house up to 75 of these mosquito-munching superheroes, giving them a safe place to chill during the day and snack at night.
Thanks to a $1,500 Rotary grant (plus some local nursery discounts), the team planted river birches, blackberry bushes, and more — helping bring back birds, butterflies, and balance to the 22-acre preserve.
As longtime Freeporter Michael Stanton put it: “We’ve been plagued with mosquitoes… so we said, ‘Well, what can we do?’”
Turns out, the answer was bats. Lots of bats. 🦇

New Hyde Park Unveils $6.1M High-Tech Operating Room
Source: LIBN

Northwell’s LIJ Medical Center just opened a brand-new, $6.1 million hybrid operating room in New Hyde Park — and it's a game-changer for vascular surgery on Long Island.
The 956-square-foot suite blends cutting-edge imaging with surgical tools in one space, allowing doctors to perform both open and minimally invasive procedures with greater precision. Think aneurysm repairs, stroke-prevention stents, and more — all with less radiation, faster recovery, and better outcomes.
As Dr. Gregg Landis puts it: “You don’t need to leave Long Island to get world-class care.”
That’s high-tech healing, right in our backyard.

🌦️ Weather Forecast: A Mood Ring in the Sky
Mother Nature’s got trust issues this week. We kick things off with some partly sunny optimism on Monday… then boom — showers crash the party Tuesday. By Wednesday? Just plain gloomy. Like “left on read” gloomy.
Things perk back up Thursday and Friday with some sun sneaking in, but don’t get too cozy — Saturday’s serving rain again.
Next week? Sunshine makes a comeback like your favorite 90s band — highs in the 60s, skies lookin’ decent. Pack layers, keep an umbrella nearby, and embrace the emotional rollercoaster that is Long Island in April.

🟠 Nassau Nugget
Did you know Long Island’s first drive-thru burger joint popped up in Nassau? Massapequa was home to one of the earliest McDonald’s on the Island, opening in the late 1950s — complete with those golden arches and 15-cent burgers. 🍔
Bonus Nug: Back in the day, Levittown was the blueprint for American suburbia. Built for returning WWII vets, it helped shape the very idea of the modern neighborhood — white picket fences and all. 🏡
